Poem. A Picture in Time. Rarasworldbro.

Old pictures

Of a younger me

Show a twinkle in the eye

And a glowing rose in her cheeks

Who is she?

This girl of colour

And youth, who is she? Her eyes!

Have not seen the horrors I’ve seen!
The world

Has held back

Its vicious teeth

From sinking in

Sucking

And draining

All the hope

And brightness

From within
Old pictures

Of a younger me

Show naivety shining brightly

Her skin flushed with juvenescence

Who is she?

This girl full of wonder

And dreams not yet crushed

Who is she, but a memory long gone?
The world

Has ravaged

And savaged her

Shaped her into the me

I am now

The winds of time

Have eroded and worn her

Torn her into me, indefinitely
And what will I see

In old pictures of now?

When time has flown past

My eyes, and etched lines in my cheeks

Who will she be

Looking on? What horrors

Have her eyes not yet seen?

Will she have any colour left in her complexion?
What knowledge will come, with time and reflection?
