This is a novel with three main female characters. One of these is Virginia Woolf, the second is housewife Laura Brown, and the third Clarissa Vaughan. The Hours spans through the 1920’s, to the 1990’s.
The Virginia Woolf parts felt realistic and I felt the frustration of Laura Brown, but Clarissa, nicknamed Mrs. Dalloway from the Virginia Woolf book, Vaughan felt contrived and like a character. She didn’t come off the page for me.
I felt as well there was no benefit to splitting into chapters the three separate stories of the women. They might as well be three stories.
Overall I felt indifferent about The Hours.
